Why Lymphocyte Immunization Therapy Is Needed?
In cases of repeated miscarriages and recurrent implantation failures, in almost 50% of cases all of the investigations done to find out the cause are normal. These cases are then labelled as unexplained miscarriages or unexplained implantation failures.
A significant number of these unexplained RM/RIFs are due to allo-immune rejection of pregnancy. This is due to lack of protective antibodies (blocking antibodies) and protective cells (Treg cells).
Immunological basis
A pregnancy has 50% genetic material from the father & 50% from the mother. The paternal part of the fetus carries with it the paternal antigens. These antigens are totally foreign to the mother's immunological system. So, logically speaking, the mother’s immunological system should build an immunological response against the fetus, leading to rejection of fetus.
The fetus survives and grows into a healthy baby, despite this. This is due to the protective antibodies (blocking antibodies) and protective cells (T regulatory cells). If these are not formed, it leads to reproductive failure.
LIT leads to production of blocking antibodies and T regulatory cells, thus helping to prevent a miscarriage or IVF failure.
LIT Therapy Success Rate
LIT is associated with a success rate of 75 to 85% as shown in various studies.
Meta-analysis of recent studies has shown that the chances of success of LIT are more than 3 times in patients who have taken LIT, compared to those who have not taken it.
